A simple visual inspection of TESB reveals that this is the logical amount.

In which case, it's horribly and lightly armed. Hell, the Death Star's way too lightly armed - non-superlaser-speaking. 2500 guns? Pfft! The surface area alone outmasses an ISD by thousands of times.

That's because the Death Star was never supposed to have a superlaser capable of obliterating entire planets. It was supposed to be just a large-arse laser, capable of wrecking havoc on planets. In addition the Death Star was planned to have VERY heavy shielding and lots of small guns - both were taken out during the design to make (energy-)room for the super laser.

A bad mistake (tm).

Personally No reasoning is better than this as to why the Death star, SDD's, and the Eclipse are so Lightly armed. Mainly i figure the people who have done the numbers for the gun amounts didnt at first take in consideration the mass/area those placements would be covering in. So they just placed an above advance amount of guns compared to smaller ships.

Thats my reasoning for it anyway becuase in my perspective theres no way in any world that the Death Star only had 2500 turbo lasers on it. specially when seeing the distances between gun emplacements (when seeing the DS surface from the films) unless of course the rebels only attacked the most heavily fortified area i guess on the DS.

Yes, that also bothered me at times. Why the Super Star Destroyer, for a vessel it's size and for the purpose it was designed for, seem reletively weak in overall armaments. Then again we never really saw the Executor fire in ESB, or even ROTJ for that matter, so it's really hard to say.

As long as were trying to make sense about the SW universe tech i found a site where a team of people tried to make sense of it all. Its the Technical Commentaries See here http://www.theforce.net/SWTC/ . They have some decent theories about the DS and the SDD as well as a few other machines.

They take into acount various references (including the films themselves when they can), measurements and calcutations to find the truth to the best of their abilty and it seems quite well done in my opinion.

The SWTC has been around for ages (and most people here know it), the problem is that he goes FAR too far, taking into account pretty much everything there is (as in comics, games, etc) - and you sinply cannot make sense with all that. He's off TOO far for my taste.

Yeah, I don't like the parts going off into the comics, but aside from that it's a great read.

Though I admit some of the comics were mildly entertaining and not much of a grae threat to the frail credibility of certain things in the Star Wars universe, nevertheless I always viewed them as the lowest form of Canon out there, often times to be ignored all together.

The X-Wing Series of comics where - storywise - from what I know actually supposed to be "EU Canon". At least Zahn, Alston and Stackpole referred to them in their books. Other than that, even those had stuff that made no sense.

But at least no swimming Y-Wings or the next "personal Kind-Of-(Super-)Star-Destroyer for the antagonist.
