Thomas had an idea. They needed to gain more trust and they needed a distraction. A scapegoat. What they needed was a staged conversation.
"Alex I've been thinking."
Alex sat up from his bunk and looked over to Thomas. "About what?"
"About what you said before, you know in the gym?"
"What are you talking about?"
"What you said about the Empire being sleemo and the Rebels having it right."
"Oh right, ok go on." Alex was catching on and began speaking closer to the listening device.
"I think you are right. The Empire is a tyrant. All it does is push people around into directions they don't want to go. The Rebellion just wants to be free from that."
"See what did I tell you? Now you understand."
"But I have a question. If you hate the Empire so much why did you join?"
Alex saw the perfect opportunity to seal his "commitment" to the Rebels. Why else would a Rebel loving scum join the Empire unless he was forced to?
"I had two choices," began Alex "I could either evacuate my home planet and end up dying like the rest of the Rebel sympathizers, or I could call myself an Imperial supporter and join up. I was a coward, so I joined the Imperials." Quite the contradiction Alex thought. "I was weak and so I joined what at the time was the winning side. And this is where it has led me."
"On your own sides prison with no way to prove your loyalty."
Alex nodded and added a sad face just in case any cameras wee around.
"I know!" Thomas exclaimed. "What if we got them information on the prison break attempt?"
"That just might work. Perhaps we could get them some information at the gym tomorrow from John."
"And report him and the plan to the Rebels by tomorrow. Surely they would allow us some kind of leave. Maybe they would even let us in to their ranks!"
"That's brilliant!"
The two hoped silently in their heads that someone had overheard them.
The two continued to chat excitedly about becoming officers. About the X-Wings they could fly and the comfortable new uniforms. They mentioned what information they would have to offer the Rebel. What fellow officers they might shoot down that used to consider them friends.
It hurt to spew every lie that came from their mouths. Neither of them ever wanted to say anything coming from their mouths but it was necessary. If they wanted wanted to get back to the Empire they were going to need to pull at any string they could find. And once they were back they could take out a small task force and burn this place to the ground personally. These scum would regret ever capturing two Imperial Officers.
