Report in to me more often if you want

The "if you want" really needs to be striken here. You are a unit leader; your people do what you tell them because you tell them to, not because they want to (well, not really, but you get what I'm working towards). Be more definitive, more precise, and add more orders beyond the usual "be active". When you say "report in", what does that mean? Maybe have them fly a mission or something. In any event, just telling your people to report in and be active is not a good way to actually acomplish that; you *have* to give them something to do, or they won't do anything.

And that's how we lose people to AWOLs, because they don't know what to do, so they don't do anything.

It might also be time to think about how your report looks if most of it is a quote and almost none of it is actual information.

This is funny to me, because I have been accused of exactly the same thing for reports such as this and this.
