La Forge's party (Chapter 16 fiction assignment)

[Reservist Foley]

John Foley was sitting at a group table, passing menus around to the various members of Viper Company. La Forge was in the middle of his speech when people started moving around and acting unsettled. Trying to figure out what was happening, Foley looked in the direction that seemed to have the most eyes focused on it, and noticed the Chimera pulling out of its dock. Foley didn't understand Navy protocol, but knew that La Forge wouldn't allow it to move a micro-meter without La Forge commanding it. Foley quickly looked to where Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell was, but saw him leaving in a hurry with Colonel Fel, and General Jansen. With Captain Chu on leave, Foley decided to take action.

"Viper Company, follow me, and get ready for a possible combat situation." Foley ordered.


Foley reached the weapons depot and started pushing troopers into it.

"Get all your equipment and weaponry ready. We have no clue what's going down, so we better make sure we're prepared for anything" Foley briefed.

Fastening his own gear, Foley looked at the men, and saw they were all ready. Foley stepped into the hall and lined Viper Company up on the wall. He saw Army Lieutenant Nexant running up with Dauntless and Demon companies.

"Any idea what's going on, Sir?" Foley asked.

"No clue, Lieutenant. I'm just getting ready for an attack." Nexant replied.

"Roger, I'm heading back to the reception hall and securing a perimeter." Foley said.

"Right, we'll join you shortly" Nexant shouted as he jumped into the supply room.

Viper Company ran into the foyer and started securing the room, and helping the guards already on post. Foley looked around and realized that Nexant was the highest ranking person in the Army still aboard the station. Foley decided to take control of the situation before Nexant got back. Foley started looking for whoever was running the situation and heard the intercom blare with Admiral Fel's voice.

"Fel to Polanski, we've fixed the hyper drive. The reason they stopped was a coded transmission that came from the Doom. I'm pursuing the Chimera now." Fel said.

"Proceed Admiral. Leave the Warhammer in case of a second attack" Polanski acknowledged.

Foley looked out the view port just as the Nemesis jumped into hyperspace. Still seeing now sign of Army Command, and with Nexant still in supply, Foley worked up his courage and approached Fleet Admiral Polanski. Stopping in front of the Admiral, Foley came to attention and saluted crisply.

"Second Lieutenant Foley of Viper Company reporting, Sir!"

Polanski returned the salute, "Yes, what is it Lieutenant?"

"Sir, we have secured the area and are awaiting orders. Army Lieutenant Nexant will be back from supply to take command of the area. He is the highest ranking Army officer aboard the station." Foley informed.

"Very good, Lieutenant. I have several high priority matters to attend to first, but I'll be with you and Lieutenant Nexant as soon as possible. Carry on." Polanski said in a calm voice that could only have come from many years of fighting.

"SIR!" Foley replied as he saluted.

Walking away and towards a table he could turn into a desk, Foley was approached by Private Grayson.

"Sir, I have Lieutenant Nexant on the comm."

"Thank you" Foley replied, picking up the comm.

"Foley he-"

"FOLEY!!!" Nexant interrupted "Get someone down here to the weapons closet. We were packing up and an explosive charge went off sealing us in. The door is horrible jammed and will have to be cut open. Get someone down here who can help us."

"Right away, Sir." Foley said. He saw a couple of people just standing around, and started instructing them to help Nexant.

Foley was sitting at a makeshift table looking through the communication logs, hoping to find something for him to work with. Foley jumped a little when a voice from behind him came out of nowhere. Spinning and jumping to his feet, Foley realized he was facing Admiral Polanski.

"Admiral, I'm sorry, I didn't know-" Foley stopped talking as Polanski raised a hand.

"I've assessed the situation for the Army and until someone returns to take command or Lieutenant Nexant is freed from the weapons cache, I'm putting you in charge of all Army forces aboard the station. There's no one higher and rank, so I'm trusting you with this. Do you think you can handle this Lieutenant? Polanski asked.

"Yes sir, I'll not fail you."

"Excellent. i'll make sure an announcement goes out, giving you command." Polanski stated. "I'll expect a report every hour untill further instruction. Remember, First Brigade is out going after the Chimeara, and Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell is with them. Viper Company is spread thin throughout this station, so be sure to keep order."

"Yes, Sir!" Foley saluted. "Thank you, Sir!"

"Carry on" Polanski returned the salute and started walking back to his desk to go over more work with Commendant Zwibble.

Foley had just finished his first report to Admiral Polanski and setting up the Army throughout the station. He had quite a few extra bodies thanks to station personnel, but it was still stretched thin. Suddenly out of the blue, an alarm started blaring. Foley looked out the view port into space and felt his draw drop. Outside, a small fleet of Rebel ships had come out of hyperspace. The Warhammer was already turning to engage, but it would still be a difficult battle for it. The fleet consisted of two Corrilean Corvettes, Four Modified Corvettes, A Nublen B Frigate, two Carrack Cruisers, and 3 Medium Troop Transports.

The war ships began to converge on the Warhammer, but the 3 transports headed right for the station. Foley immediately knew where to send his troops. There were four large ship docks, so Foley started giving out commands to protect the entrances. Foley decided to head down there himself to help the hellish fighting that would take place soon.

I just also realized how vein I am too
