Once more nothing to report, another week has gone by without any sign of Rebels. I am beginning to get sick and tired of staring at these gray metal plated walls, looking out my tiny window from my quarters.
We are still patrolling in the Horuset system with Sector Group One, spread out patrolling every corner of this quiet system. The rest of the navy is most likely seeing the same thing we are, nothing. We haven’t received any reports to prove otherwise from them.
Well I guess it wouldn’t matter, its not likely many Rebels would be foolish enough to go this deep into Imperial space to confront our main fleet. We may be a little off guard since our fleet is spread out throughout the system but this is the Chimaera, the flagship of the Imperial Navy. It rare to even find a ship that can withstand our firepower, never mind us pilots inside.
We just received word that the Red Claw finished its patrols and is reforming back with the flagship. Well its lunch time and everyone is heading to the Mess Hall to grab a bite to eat. Wonder what we are having for today.
Just got back, Bantha Soup and it seems we received supplies down from the base on Korriban, we were having Tuk’ata. I guess the droid chefs were running out of ideas. It wasn’t too bad but I would take the fish from my Golden Beaches of Corellia any day.
I feel bad for those poor souls stationed on Korriban. I mean for one the planet is nothing but dry deserts and canyons. Besides that, well there is something down there. We receive reports that the men see spirits and hear voices. Some are even going mad from it all. Nobody wants to be the person chosen to search the ruins and tombs. I don’t blame them. The base they are stationed at seems to be an old outpost that was abandoned, I heard it was attacked and nearly destroyed by some war thousands of years ago. That doesn’t sit well with the men down there either. It’s more of a modern tomb instead.
Today nothing new either, just more reports of ghost stories on Korriban. The fleet is still spread out patrolling the sector and me in my little quarters still staring out my window. Maybe today I will get to remember what my cockpit looks like.
We just lost contact with one of our corvettes that had been patrolling the hyperspace lane that runs through the system. It runs right through an asteroid field. Some insane explorer found a safe route through the field that saved two hours if you went around it. They always assure us there is nothing to worry about but I still wouldn’t trust it. Even with the drift charts the supposedly prove that no asteroids pass through the hyperspace lane. Well we were the nearest ship to the corvette’s last known coordinates so we headed to the asteroid field.
Over the loudspeaker the computerized voice kept yelling “All pilots to your fighters, all crew to your stationsâ€. It’s just a precautionary measure just in case we see something we need to worry about. I don’t think we are lucky enough to get any action but I can still hope. My squad and I headed to the hangar. When we got there they said we were on standby, Alpha squad was sent to patrol the asteroid field first. So we waited for them to report in.
I decided to sneak into the Flight Deck Control station to hear for myself what was happening. Just to see if this might get interesting or if was a waste of time. For about ten minutes all I heard was Alpha squad’s commander just listing all the quadrants and saying nothing to report. I guess it was another false alarm. Then they reported debris in the field. It seems it was the corvette. Then all of a sudden I heard what sounded like an explosion. The squad leader was just blown away, then more explosions in the background from the rest of the squad.
One of the other squad members reported Rebel Fighters and needed support. They were going to make their way back to the Chimaera. I ran to the hangar and jumped into my fighter and prepped for launch. Over the loudspeaker Flight Deck Control ordered Zeta, Delta and Gamma squad to intercept the Rebel Fighters and engage while gamma escorts Alpha back to the Chimaera
Gamma got to Alpha before our two squads and engaged the X-Wings. When our squads got there we engaged the fighters while Gamma broke off the attack and escorted Alpha back to the Chimaera. Gamma had just reported they finished their escort and were heading back to the battle. Well they missed most of the battle, oh well more kills for us. The last few X-Wings fled into the asteroid field trying to escape, most likely trying to get to the Hyperspace lane for a quick exit.
We were just getting to the opening of the lane when the Hyperspace Tunnel opened up and out came two Corvettes. We tried contacting the Chimaera but the asteroids were screwing with our communication arrays. We decided to attempt to take on the corvettes. Each squad took one. We easily took out their shield Generators and were beginning our attack on the bridge.
The hyperspace tunnel opened up again and out spewed a Mon Cal cruiser. My squad pulled up and Delta barely got out of the way. Although two from Delta got too close to a few of the Modular Pods and they were vaporized in an instant. We knew we were over our heads now and needed to get back to the Chimaera. We couldn’t contact them for reinforcements due to the blasted asteroids so we fell back.
Gamma linked up with us as we fled the Asteroid Field and we all fell back to the Chimaera. They were following us hoping we would lead them to the flagship. We knew we couldn’t handle them alone so what else could we do? The Chimaera was waiting for us with the Red Claw at the edge of the field.
As soon as our squads came out of the field a corvette was right behind. The Red Claws Gravity-Wells went up instantly. Then another corvette came out, and another and another until there were six coming right for the Chimaera. As soon as the men on the bridge saw that all fighters were scrambled. Alpha was even rearmed and repaired to fight. All of the fighter squadrons were ordered to provide support for Iota Squadron to hit key targets on the corvette while Beta bombs them to Coruscant. Delta and my squad went into Atom formation until Iota was launched. We circled the Corvettes in all different angles hitting it all around to make it somewhat easier for Iota.
Lt. Phantom took me and En. Foxtrot and we assaulted one of the already weakened corvettes obliterating it in only a few seconds. Lt. Steel took En. Harper, En. Pryde and En. Snogard against the other corvette decimating it just as quickly as us. Our squad received a few “Good Jobs†from High Command aboard the Chimaera. Our squad moved on to the other corvettes. We then saw Iota on the scanners and was making their run.
Lt. Cody Alex, EF. Jast, SL. O’Moran and En. D. Semm went down one row of the corvettes, while 2Lt. Drazhar, En. Skacore, and En. I. Semm went down the other row. They ripped through the Corvette’s shields knocking out the shield generators, comm. Systems, every turbo laser, and even the engines. It was nothing more then a sitting duck now. Beta won’t have a hard time taking them out now. Iota decided not even bother to wait for Beta to show up. They went for another run and shattered the four ships to pieces. When the corvettes were gone and we got a chance we told High Command about the Mon Cal cruiser. The Chimaera stuck around for a while and waited for it to show up.
Just then three Mon Cal cruisers broke through the asteroid field. Well that explains why it took so long for them to show themselves. They were waiting for the rest of the fleet. They only sent the corvettes to hold us off. Immediately the Chimaera sent out a distress signal to the entire fleet in the system.
The Chimaera and Red Claw lit up the entire area. Engulfing the three cruisers in laser and Ion fire but they were just out of range. Only a few shots scored any hits. Every fighter was being launched from the Chimaera and Red Claw. What looked like a rain cloud heading to the cruisers were actually waves upon waves of TIEs.
Iota was taking heavy damage due them just finishing their run and being in the middle of the Rebel Fleet when it emerged out of the asteroid field. Although they unleashed as much damage as they took they still needed to retreat to the Chimaera. Alpha squad escorted them back while the rest of us continued our attack on the cruisers. We were told Beta was leading the rest of the bombers on a run to hit the cruisers and needed escorts. Most of the regular TIEs saw to it.
Just then the cruiser’s hangar door’s opened and X-Wing squads came out to go after the bombers. Well now we needed to make sure the fighters didn’t get the bombers never mind the Rebel Cruiser’s own defenses.
Delta and my squad intercepted two of the X-Wing squads while Gamma and some TIEs went after the third. We didn’t realize while this was happening Y-Wing squads went after the Chimaera and Red-Claw.
After we dealt with the fighters we noticed the bombers. Delta, Gamma and my squad went after them. We were almost there but the Y-Wings dropped the first of their payload of proton bombs on the Chimaera. Explosions lit up the ship. Leaving it charred in sections. The other squad didn’t reach the Red Claw yet. It looked like Gamma would get to them before they reached their target.
Iota aborted its docking procedures and engaged the Y-Wings along with Alpha before we got there. They destroyed a few but the ones falling in flames guided the ships into the Chimaera before crashing and igniting the rest of its payload causing massive damage. The rest broke off formation and continued its run.
One of the Y-Wings that broke off hit the deflector shield dome causing the shields to go out momentarily. My squad intercepted the other Y-Wing going for the other dome, Iota got the one heading for the reactor, and the Chimaera’s defenses got the one heading for the bridge. Gamma just reported the last Y-Wing going for the Red-Claw was just taken care of. The three cruisers were still heading for the Chimaera and Red-Claw, and still no blasted sign of the rest of our fleet, just our luck.
Beta and the rest of the bombers crippled the cruiser’s engines slowing them down, giving us some more time. They lost so many in just one run. They were attempting a second run. Beta knocked out a cruiser’s shield generator, one squad hit the generator crippling the ships components just before getting destroyed, and the last squad didn’t even get a chance for a second run. All of our fighters were dropping like stones. The cruisers were almost in range to assault our flagship. There was still no blasted sign of reinforcements. Where the hell were they?
The cruisers were now in range. Its Heavy Turbolasers began its barrage on the Chimaera. Although the Chimaera’s shields were back up they wouldn’t hold for long. The Chimaera and red Claw focused their attacks on the Mon Cal Cruiser without shields. In hopes to take it out as quickly as possible before it down more damage then it was worth, which was obviously nothing.
The Mon Cal cruiser’s hull ruptured and explosions were everywhere. All its modular pods exploded along with the cruiser itself, causing massive damage to its allied cruisers.
The last two cruisers continued its assault on the Chimaera. The Chimaera’s Shield generator was overloading and beginning to loose power the shields went out. The cruisers blasts were scarring the ships hull and the Chimaera’s lights were beginning to flicker. The Red-Claw was giving as much support as it could but to no avail.
Then Green blasts from all directions hit the cruisers. VSD Dominance and its fleet came from out of a nearby nebula, VSD Striker and its fleet came from the direction of the system’s sun blinding us to its approach, and VSD Vigilant and its fleet came blazing out of the asteroid field from behind the cruisers.
The cruisers broke off their assault and were trying to flee into hyperspace. The Red-Claw’s gravity-Wells prevented that but since they attempted it anyway all the power from their shields went to their engines. Every one of our blasts cut right through their hull. The cruisers were breaking apart in front of us but we showed no mercy and continued to bombard the ships until there was nothing left but specs in space. Escape pods were beginning to jettison but our squads saw to that and made sure nobody survived.
After our squad docked in the hangar we all headed to debriefing. Mechanics and engineers were running up and down the corridors. The rest of the fleet escorted us to the space station over Korriban for repairs. When we got to the bridge for debriefing we saw Iota leaving. We were the second to arrive. We received some commendations and were told to return to our quarters. As we left Delta was heading in.
To tell you the truth it was a really close call. If those Rebel Fighters didn’t destroy our corvette drawing attention to their rendezvous location in the asteroid field and actually got a chance to amass their fleet we would most likely be out of a flagship. Good thing we were dealing with just weak minded rebels. They always tend to screw these things up.
