Royal Guard Examinations?

Post by RES Mitchell »

Do any of you think it would be a good idea if the Academy offered an exam for entrance into the Royal guard? Place comments here.

Except you have to earn a position in the Guard, you can't just take a test.

You will be tested ... if you success this test, and there´s no strict guideline how to do so, you have at least earned to be a Royal Guard Tyro.

Answer me this: If the Navy has more members then the Legion, and the Legion has hit a all time low....

THEN WHY DO THEY GET AN ELITE UNIT?

THE NAVY SHOULD HAVE AN ELITE SQUADRON

...whats up with that?

While gaming performance already plays a part in entering the Guard, perhaps there is merit in making sure Guard members are competent in their knowledge of how the Guard works. That was the main point of my question.

We have an elite unit: The Scimitar Squadron! But it´s temporary closed now as well was the guard for some time, maybe a comeback of it some day.

In all my time, Scimitar has never been open.

If there was an exam, the Legion Commander would need to make it.

Scimitar has been there since *almost* the beginning of the GE, as far as I know. And it was never open for application. And I can't remember a time during which the Royal Guard was closed...

The difference between the Royal Guard and Scimitar is, that Scimitar positions are permanent, whereas positions in the Royal Guard are in addition to your usual duties - your standard Legion placement stays the same. Maybe there will eventually be a similar system for the Navy. I recall the late Admiral Daemon making some comments in that direction...

Not that I am in favor of "elite" units whatsoever - get your day-to-day operations sorted out before doing the elite stuff again. ;-)

I never closed it, there was just too little activity to warrant its use.

Longstreet: There's a difference between...

a) the Guard being officially closed and
b) there not being any qualified members to fill its ranks.

The Imperial Royal Guard was never closed. When Starbug was Legion Commander, I was in it. And I was alone as Legion Commander for only a short time.

There is no reason for a Royal Guard exam due to the skills focus the Royal Guard possesses. The Tyro unit is for those who have potential but not yet have been active enough to join, not for those who simply take an exam. Please re-read how one enters into the Royal Guard, you will be enlightened that a exam would be pointless and quite opposing to the ideals of the Imperial Royal Guard.
