Fel's Fantastic Fleet Report :: 2006-04

FROM: Admiral Fel, Commander of the Navy
TO: All Naval Officers
SUBJECT: Fleet Report, April 2006

==========
Introduction
==========

Medical teams have never left standby on all decks to take care of any officers who suffered from shock from reading the "subject" field of this transmission. Yes, you're reading right - it's a SECOND fleet report. And you thought I was going to stop after one! Well, I guess this little mail proves THAT wrong. ;-)

==========
News
==========

1) Empire Day!
On March 11 we had our (slightly-delayed) celebration of the Empire's rebirth in the official IRC Channel. You can read the full log of the proceedings on the MBs at viewtopic.php?t=1518 . Thanks to everybody who attended!

2) Empire at War Ladders!
Consistent with our commitment to fully support Empire At War, I am happy to announce that Empire at War support now extends to the ladders! You can view the ladders or sign up at http://www.empirereborn.net/ladders.php?page=root .

I hope to see lots of activity on the EaW ladders - participation in the naval ladders hasn't been that great lately, but this is a chance for resurgence. As with all the others, the end date is 2006-06-30, so there is lots of opportunity to get in games.

Please remember that you need your EaW BCC to sign up for the ladders - make sure you get it at the Imperial Academy right away!

3) End of Outer Sectors Information!
As announced in the meeting on 2006-04-01, Chapter 30 is the FINAL chapter of the Outer Sectors Campaign...!

The very LAST day on which to turn in anything for Outer Sectors is April 30 (2006-04-30), and after that date, no more submissions will be accepted.

To make things perfectly clear, I have decided that the very last time at which things will be accepted is 23:59:59 (GMT) on April 30 according to the GMT Timestamp available at http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/gmt-timestamp.htm . At this web address, the value under "GMT Server Time Stamp:" tells you the current official time, and when that hits the appointed time, Outer Sectors will be officially closed...!

There should therefore be *no* confusion about whether or not it is too late to send in your files. If you have any questions, please contact me well in advance.

To ensure that things are appropriately counted in the final week, there will be a slight change in procedure in order:

For mission completions, turn in FPRs directly to your commanding officers with a carbon-copy to myself. If your superior officers do not process the file in time, I will have a record of it and will make sure it is counted. However, I will *only* count it if it has been sent to your CO as well.

Also, please be reminded that *you* must check your scores and report if anything is missing or incorrect! General Jansen and I will do our best to verify the accuracy, but in the end, it is up to *you* to make sure everything is in order.

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of end-game activity from all of you!

4) GE Meeting on May 6!
Yes, it's far in advance, but it's always good to have lots of notice. On May 6, the GE will hold its customary meeting in #galactic_empire on Undernet... And on that day we expect to announce the winners, final results, and medal awards of Outer Sectors!

And, of course, there will be the usual meeting procedures and events. We look forward to seeing you there!

Flight Performance Reports

Outer sectors makes for a lot, but there are still many of you who aren't flying. If you suddenly find yourself out the airlock with nothing but a blaster in your hand, you may know why...

La Forge x16
Viktorov x14
Raven x10
Ualtar x8

Tollek x2
Kenseu x2
Qwuitli

For a total of *125* FPRs this month. Nice work. :-)

==========
Tactical Achievements
==========

This is where we give congratulations to those of us who've conned Commodore Vortagh into approving our bug-riddle... errr... high-quality missions into the Combat Chamber!

Admiral Fel (yours truly) - a bunch more times. And he'll get a few more in before OS is out. Rest assured.

==========
Multiplayer Participations
==========

Now wait a minute - I didn't find anything in here under ECP reports, except a backdated one for Syrtaras regarding Operation Purge Orus. Does this mean we're letting the Army take all the ICTE glory? Hmmm? Hmmm? Guess I'll have to start shooting a blaster down the hallway to "encourage" combat-readiness.

==========
Medal Awards
==========

Ensign Lenanor: Letter of Commendation
Ensign First Class Qorl: Medal of Merit
Ensign Qwuitli: Medal of Merit
Ensign Maris: Medal of Merit

(Just wait for OS medals... Then there will be a lot in the Navy... Or else. >:-) )

==========
New Cadets
==========

Please give the following people a warm and hearty welcome to the Imperial Navy! They have joined our ranks as newly graduated ensigns since my last report... :-)

Ensign Lenanor - Iota 1-3, ISD Chimaera
Ensign Maris - FRG Chinook Communications
Ensign Silver - FRG Chinook Chief Engineer

==========
Reports
==========

ISD Chimaera - Nope. La Forge, what's going on here?
Iota Squadron - Yes
Zeta Squadron - We'll let it slide because Ualtar was just promoted. Or it could be in the MIA Chimaera report...

VSD Striker - Syrt turned in a report while still Thunderbolt CO. Okay here.
FRG Thunderbolt - Yes.
FRG Chinook - Yes.

ISD Nemesis - Yes
Psi Squadron - Yes
Epsilon Squadron - Yes

Tactical Co-ordinator - Nothing. But he does like to tell me informally what he's up to... every hour.

If you're a ship captain, I suggest you post your report on the MBs for all to see/enjoy/read/laugh at. If you're a squad leader, you may certainly do so as well, at your option.

Competitions
==========

Outer Sectors
Host: Admiral Fel
Status: Ongoing

Hopefully there isn't much I can tell you about Outer Sectors that you don't already know. The campaign is in its second-to-last-chapter, and now is the time when your actions choose the fate of the Empire!

Ladders
Host: The GE
Status: Open!

The ladders are an (almost) always ongoing way to be active in the Empire. Pilots and ground troops face off against one another, and everyone who wins and and everyone who plays gets points. The winner at the end, and perhaps some 2nd or 3rd place officers, if there is enough activity, earn medals! Full details at: http://empirereborn.net/ladders.php?page=root

Empire at War has been officially added to the ladders... and it's great to see lots of activity! Keep it up! :-)

ICTE
Host: #outerrim on Undernet
Status Ongoing

Hosted by our allies, the ICTE, or Inter-Club Training Event, is a fun way to get together and play some multiplayer outside of the ladders. ICTEs take place every Saturday night, and your participation will earn you a pin for your Imperial Star! Full details and rules at: http://icte.starwarsalliance.com/

Most recent ICTE was April 8, next will be April 15... Hopefully you'll be there. :-)

==========
Sith of the Month
==========

Every month there's that one person crafty, clever, or just plain cool enough to earn the award of Sith of the Month.

This month's winner is none other than... Planetary Governor Tuomo! The good governor, who is a well-known PHP/SQL/coding demigod, came out of retirement to give us all a lot of help with the Empire Reborn domain and make it work a lot better.

Way back, before most of you joined the Empire, Tuomo hosted the Imperial Forum, which was basically a news service, biographical and character data repository, and a few other things. It turned out we liked the ideas so much, they got incorporated into the main site... :-)

Also, thanks to a new site development process we've implemented with Tuomo joining the team, we've for once avoided any serious screwups on the site... which leads me to the Gungan of the Month award...

==========
Gungan of the Month
==========

Since the Sith of the Month is so amazing, the universe must compensate to bring everything back into balance. Hence, there is a Gungan of the Month.

Now I know you're all thinking "LA FORGE!!!!" and have already lined up to throw rotten eggs at his office, but this time he didn't "win".

This month's Gungan is... Ensign Jamie!

First some backstory. Long ago, Commodore Vortagh registered the channel #officerslounge to be a roleplaying sort of place for the GE aside from the main 'general' channel. But while he was in the reserves, he didn't sign into the Undernet X bot, and as a result his account and the channel's registration were deleted.

So now we've attempted to get the X bot back for the channel, and once you get supporters for it, Undernet posts a message calling for objections. That way it's difficult to hijack a channel that's not yours.

Our illustrious Gungan decides he's going to post an objection saying we shouldn't get X because then some people will be OPs and others won't... There are two things wrong with this:

1) Objections are not for this. An objection is "We use #officerslounge and a bunch of idiots from the Rebel Squadrons are trying to hijack it so we can't have it."

2) The goal is to make #officerslounge a roleplaying channel. It's hard to enforce RP when the worst we can do is /ignore. Now mind you, it's possible Jamie didn't know this... but the worst part is that he filed the objection without even asking Vortagh WHY we were registering the channel.

So if our registration fails... We'll know why. Jamie "wins" Gungan of the Month. (La Forge, you got off lucky... this time).

==========
Personal Section
==========

Here's where I report to all of you what I've been doing recently, so you don't all just sit and wonder.

- Outer Sectors Story
- Outer Sectors Missions
- FPR Review & Scoring
- Misc. OS Scoring
- Site work and officers' manual updated
- Roster management
- MB Admin
- Online via AIM/MSN/IRC like always
- Wrote this very report, yes, the one you are reading right now. :P

==========
Standing Orders
==========

1. Be in contact

There are loads of ways to be in contact, and e-mail is just one of them. Many officers are available on AOL Instant Messenger, and some even on MSN Messenger, both of which are free downloads. Some people are also on IRC(Internet Relay Chat) all the time, so please do come by! #galactic_empire on the Undernet network. We're friendly (as long as you're well behaved) and would be very glad to have you join us.

2. Recruit

The Empire is always in need of new officers, so if you know somebody who'd like to join, or if you just want to go out on IRC or the MSN Gaming zone and find people, that's very much encouraged... Especially for Empire at War!

3. Fly

I'd really like to see lots of people flying, whether on the ladders, single player, or on the Free Worlds server. It doesn't have to take much time, and it's a lot of fun, which leads me to my next point:

4. Have Fun!

That's the most important part of the whole thing. What you'll remember ten years down the road is not the name of that dashingly handsome admiral who wrote the never-ending reports that came on an irregular schedule, but how much fun you had while you were a part of the organization.

==========
Closing
==========

Not a whole lot to say here, except... Get back to your fighters! Outer Sectors isn't over yet! :P
