Holonet Security Update Complete...!

This evening I've undertaken an upgrade program to the security of our PHPBB software, which comes in two forms...

The first is the underlying software upgrade to PHPBB version 2.0.20.

The second - and more interesting - is the board now has a little puzzle for spambots to choke on before their registration can be completed! This will certainly cut down on automated spambots... However, for now, live checking of user signups will continue!

The best part about this is the hack only needed to take place within the Solaris substyle itself - which I've already hacked a fair bit - meaning that we haven't got any difficulties updating the PHPBB core...

Are there seriously these spambots - I mean what have their names been , what did they post? And who creates them ?

They can't post, because account activation is required to post nowadays. Their profiles usually have a link or two to various sites of the gambling, adult and viagra persuasion.

Who creates them? If I knew, they would be dead. I'm sure most people here share that sentiment.

Now you just need to delete ALL those spam users that already signed up. :P
