Interview on Forces of Corruption

Post by EN Vortigern »

Greetings comrades, I am Ensign Vortigern reporting in. I have joined the Imperial Navy a couple of days ago, and have been posted with the Nebulon-B frigate Tornado.

By the way, anyone intrested in getting to know more about Lucasart's upcoming expansion of Empire at War: Forces of Corruption, can review an interview of Assistant Producer David Silverstein on the following address:

www.2404.org/interviews/986/SWEAW:-Forc ... -Interview

This interview reveals plenty of Official news about the expansion, for eg Grand Admiral Thrawn will be an Imperial Hero :)

Until next time, see you.

However, Tyber Zann does not have the same resources as the Rebellion or Empire. Because of this, the Underworld has to use a variety of corrupt, sneaky and underhanded tactics and weapons to even the odds. Nothing is off limits to the Underworld: outlawed droid technology, chemical warfare, cloaking ships, hiding in asteroid fields, bribery and sabotage are all fair game.
I find that sorta oxymoronical. He doesn't have as much resources, but he can afford cloaking ships, which are quite expensive?

I think that the Underground faction will be a collage of stolen technologies, a mix of weaponry obtainable from the black market and a host of outlaw fighters and Bounty Hunters. However it seems quite an original faction and i am sure it will introduce new strategical possibilities and opportunities within the game.

After all, the expansion will also beef up the Imperial faction, with the addition of the Death Star 2 and the Executor, not to mention the Dark Stormtroopers.

IMHO it looks like the EaW team does not really believe in sticking to the canon terribly closely. ;-)

The EAW developers at Petroglyph bare all in this designer diary preview, published on Gamespot:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sta ... id=6152936

It is a very intresting preview since it reveals how the new faction headed by the elusive Tyber Zann will function, its technologies and how to research them, and how its black market economy will impoverish the other factions..........etc. Well you can see it for yourself :D

I've played the demo. It's quite interesting, but FoC spits on what's generally accepted to be canon by SW fans, then tears it up into tiny pieces, pisses on them and firebombs them before feeding the ashes to pigs.

Darkstar: As for the upgrade, it's an one-time payment of what, 6000 credits? For EVERY cloakable units to acquire the cloaking generator automatically. That's not expensive, it's sickeningly cheap. :P

I'll probably buy the expansion, then play through it several times just so I can bitch about every deficiency.

It looks O.K. but nothing special, I think other non-SW games have more of my attention at the moment.

"The unlitame prize awaits: An immense Super Star Destroyer known as the Eclipse. Spanning the length of nearly II of the Star Destroyers seen in the original Empire at War, the deadliest capital ship in the galaxy comes equipped with a superlaser riviling that of the Death Star."

I was never a fan of the Eclipse class, but the least they could do is get the size right.

Which size would that be? :P

The sources I've seen for the Eclipse's length says that it's either 17.6km long or twice the length of the Executor. Since the Executor has three different lengths recorded, this puts the Eclipse at 16km, 25.6km or 35.2km.

An ISD is 1.6km, which is 17.6km when multiplied by 11... I assume you consider the 17.6km length to be the Executor's canon length. There are compelling arguments in favour and against this - being featured in the movies and being so very lightly armed for its size*.

Wookieepedia puts the Eclipse at 17.5km long, so it *is* nearly 11 times the length of an ISD. :P

*The Executor is reputed to be armed with something like 250 turbolaser batteries, 250 ion cannon batteries and 250 concussion missile launchers. This is a ridiculously low amount of firepower when compared with the ISD's 60 turbolaser batteries and 60 ion cannon batteries. Assuming weapon armanent is proportional to length(which it is not, width has to be factored in), 11*60 equals 660. Given that the Executor masses more than thirty or fifty times the ISD, it should be armed with between 1800-3000 turbolaser batteries, 1800-3000 turbolaser batteries as well as however many warhead launchers would have been seen as appropiate. Certainly in the four-digit range, if the Providence-class Carrier/Destroyer is anything to judge by - 102 torpedo launchers in a hull massing much less than an ISD.
