Major Messageboards Upgrade Completed!

No doubt many of you have noticed the forums look a little different tonight!

Earlier this evening I was busy taking the spamusers for a ride straight out the airlock, and I decided to do two things: The first was a PHPBB upgrade, from 2.0.20 to 2.0.21. And then while I was working on it, I elected to do a more serious upgrade - this time to CBACK Orion - a variant of the PHPBB software we normally use.

CBACK Orion is intended as being totally compatible with PHPBB - so no data was lost in the upgrade; not even avatars! - but with greatly enhanced security, and features.

Obviously, there will be a few minor issues to hammer out, but they will be taken care of. Please post them here if you do encounter them.

For those of you that were curious, this whole project was put forth by Mr. Vortagh, and he upgraded the ImperialSquadrons.net messageboards in advance of this. I have undertaken a significant amount of reasearch on the subject in order that this transition might go as smoothly as possible, and I appear to have hit no difficulties in the upgrade.

So - please enjoy and make use of the new features. Thanks all, for your patience during the upgrade!

PS. 120 Spamusers were killed tonight.

Very nice work Admiral, am very impressed, the chat feature will be a pearler for then I'm at work

I have to say, this looks... quite different. There are a lot of new features I'll have to get used to.

One of the things that can be REALLY annoying to users is the CAPTCHA of Orion, which is *very* effective on keeping spam users out (of course, you can't do anything about spammers who use real people to sign up). The problem is that this one is also REALLY good at keeping non-spammers out.

I think I found a bug. On the main page for the forums there's a small list of the most recent topics. They put down the latest poster instead of the auther of the topic.

That's not a bug, that's simply telling you who posted last.

Oh, and we need to add an Imperial flag so I can have that.

Oh, I just found a "bug". At least with what I can see, the little tabs under each post that show you what messengers, etc the person uses, the following are shown too big and thus look all...poo

Strange - both "online" and "ICQ" work fine. Maybe the buttons are fscked up to begin with? Bad code? FEL!

Just a little athestic suggestion here, the symbol that comes up when you've got the choice to either go back to your message or back to the forum, if we can replace it with an Imperial Symbol it'd fit better with the overall theme. I imagine this is something in the pipeline anyway, but if not, sometime to add to it then perhaps...
