It is. And Vortagh is quite correctt. The US gained French support after our victory at Saratoga but that was a fluke of sorts.

The ultimate battle of the war, the Siege of Yorktown, only resulted in an American victory because the French Navy was able to cut off General Cornwallis' troops from resupply via the Royal Navy. Without that assistance, Cornwallis would have been well-supplied and been more than a match for Washington.

And incidentally, by the French royal family intervening on America's behalf they led to, a large part, to their own destruction by revolution in France.
I think along the lines of lettting their own people know a large monarchy could be defeated by revolution.

Yeah, you know, cutting the heart out of a living sacrificial prisioner, throwing the heart in a jar, and letting the blood run down the steps. Then they repeated it several times a day.

True but I meant it in comparision to the Revolution in America vs French one not in history in general or even American history.

I seriously doubt the effectiveness of the time's weapons to wage an effective guerilla war against a much greater force. No range or firepower for that.

If rebelling colonies had been the only thing the British had to worry about, "overwhelming" wouldn't even come close to describing the situation.
