Which is why we have medals as well. Most of the merit medals do go a little way to offsetting the lack of promotions an officer receives.

There are a lot of organisations who have those mixed-up combinations of ranks and positions; using army/navy - ranks in combination, having Lieutenant-General as rank for standart flight members, putting junior officers in charge of senior officers etc. etc. .

One of the reasons IÂ´m quiet happy here. ThereÂ´s some kind of systematic logic for me.

That's because they do see fit to promote people nearly continously. I know the Emperor's Hammer do this and they end up placing senior people under the command of juniors quite often. The fact that their rank system is a bastardised version of the two rank ladders doesn't help much.

Nearly sixty-two thousand medals in total awarded, compared to our total of 1104. I have to agree that we're much closer to reality where ranks and medals go - whoever heard of somebody having 500+ medals?

Also, one has to keep in mind that our ranks are not something you get "awarded" or "earn" them in the way you earn medals.

Ranks are not some prize, but stand for a position. You could be the awesomestestest pilot/trooper, yet suck at leading people, and I guarantee you that you'd never be promoted to LT. At least not from my perspective. ;P

On the other hand, you could be the suckiest pilot in the entire World, yet inspire your entire squadron to fly - number one for promotion to LT on my list.

Sadly not everybody does stuff the way I would - even with my correct views of the world.
