As of now. It is limited to 2 sides. I will try to find a Mod , or create it to fix this.

As for the number of ships. EAW cripples many, many Capital Ships....


In this game, having a fleet of 1 VSD, 1 Tartan and 1 INT for example, is considered extremely small.

Mar: XWA uses a very fucked up system of ports to let you connect. Steel and I spent a week or so, to map them all out as good as it gets, however we came to the conclusion that, to play XWA over a firewall, you will have to open up at least two big (as in at least 100-400) port ranges.

However, later I tried a tunneling network called ... not Hitachi...damnit. JAGGED? What's the name again? Anyways - I tried that with Jagged and it worked like a charm. Almost no lag at all.

Mar: yeah, like you said, that's the issue. To be effective in for this wargame, each fleet will need 20 or 30 star destroyers. With XWA, each fleet would have only a handful, with smaller capital ships, and it made their placement much more crucial and important.

What do people think about this? Is it more important to have massive space battles or actually have to think and juggle your meagre resources and mold your small task force into an effective tool for victory?

To put it in role-playing terms, if the GE existed at the height of Imperial power, than I could see having a wargame built around massive fleets of capital ships. But these days we're more more....economical.

I don't see the fun of sending 30 VSDs or more to the graveyard each battles. But we could do it for the purpose of the game. But we'll have to keep in mind that both sides will have major fleets that do not reflects the "Reality".

Another point that regards EAW. People who play against me knows I sacrifice ships after ships..after ships to win matches (as most players do). My point is that playing EAW into a Supremacy style competition will be much more different than "unlimited resources" games. I guess this could be a positive aspect of using EAW with very limited resources. But matches will be short. Surely under 5 minutes each.

Another point for EAW. It doesn't permit you to Hyperspace out of a combat zone. For this , we could simply "Quit" the game. ScoreSheet will then only show enemies that were destroyed. Of course, a special rule would have to be put for matches where Interdictors would be used. And players integrity would be essential for exemple if a player quited after destroying an INT.

If we can make XWA work , we'll have an issue with the how many XWA pilots we have. But I still think XWA is the best platform for competitions like this. The space part at least.

Are you saying XWA is an "unlimited resource" game?

If we do it with FoC, there will be no resource gathering or stations just ships on the map. This would somewhat eliminate the urge to "sacrafice" ships in battle and will promote the use of tactics while in-game.

Resources are not coming from XWA (since it's only combat) but from the planets that are usually involved in a Competition such as Supremacy. You then buy what you want. When 2 Fleets encounter each other, we put them in XWA and then battle.

Sometimes the battle can be in 2 or 3 missions, depending on the forces involved. And since only 8 slots per team are allowed in XWA.

Hamachi. Worked great with XWA, and Battlfield Vietnam.

I can't make Hamachi work. I used it once and the evaluation period has expired. Now every time I try to use it , it tells me to purchase it.

Any solutions? I'd like to run some test with it this weekend, but I need to make it work first.
