Winter 2009 Ladders Open!

Officers of the Empire:

As of yesterday at the meeting, the Winter Session of the GE:ER Ladders was opened. I notice that play in the ladders has been steadily decreasing as play in the ICTE (Inter-Club Training Event) has been increasing, and these are no doubt related...

I offer a reminder that you can play an ICTE match against another GE:ER player and count it towards the ladders, should you both agree (and be on the ladder!). Matches with or against non-GE:ER players cannot count for ladder credit.

To stimulate ladder activity in some platforms that have seen a recent drop-off, for the winter ladders I have a little extra reward in mind for the winners of the following ladders, assuming at least ten matches are played in them: The Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, and X-Wing Alliance ladders. I hope to be handing out awards come the April meeting!

For this session (and all future ones) there is a new rule in place for the ladders, with regard to medal awards. Sub-Lieutenant Fenix presented a particular corner case scenario in which a player could achieve third place in a highly active ladder without playing more than a small number of matches. In order to prevent rewarding officers with minimal participation but a disproportionately high score, I am instituting the rule that an officer must play a minimum of four (4) games in order to be eligible for a medal. Most of the time, this rule will have no effect on ladder medals. It has no effect on scoring.

As expected, the winter ladders remain open until 2009-03-31.

And I am coming out of unofficial retirement from JO gaming for this season. Challenge me - GMT evenings should be free, although I'm currently courting a charming fellow, so my presence won't be what it was during the Summer 2006 round.
