Well, surely we could just start adding positions to the ships we already have? like XO's to the smaller ships that wouldn't have them... AND, we would have to get ALOT of people for that to happen surely, which, given the current climate, is very possibly not going to happen.

hmm.... It looks good, except for one part.

The bridge crews to FRGs. This is EXACTLY the same setup we had before the FRgs were deactivated and the crews became bridge crews.

I had been under the impression that an Ensign-First Class would command the entire frigate, which, like the squadrons, would otherwise be AI.

also: to the extent of my knowledge (and from what La Forge said in one of his first posts in this thread) I don't think, or at least have not heard or seen anything from Jamie for months.

I'm going to assume you have though, considering he is your XO.

As the notes say, I'm including EVERYONE currently listed on the rosters as a starting point. But unfortunately, Commander Jaime does seem to be AWOL at this point in time.

And this is a *very* rough starting point for us, just something to get us going.

I did/do.

However, I've always been preeminently a line officer. I'm sure I don't have to remind you that I built my GE reputation in "leading from the front". I would like to think that if the GE actually did fight a war, I'd have an important field command. :-P

I have an idea! I agree with what is being proposed by the way. My idea is close to what Calder is saying, but keeps the order of battle in prospective. I would have small TIE Fighter squads being commanded by single soldiers like what Calder says. You could have maybe 4-5 of these per SD. Then you have several small vessels like FRGs. These would be run a little different as it would go to LC. To get to a FRG you must complete a exam to show that you would be competent for that position. It would be easy to advance up the ranks that way and it would keep the chain of command the same. You have the Squads answer to the CO of the Star Destroyer and the FRG CO does the same for his squad. Then above that you have Victory and Imperiator class Destroyers. In these ships you would have a Bridge Crew arranged of Officers from the rank of Lieutenant Commander to Line Captain. Then you would have a single Line Captain or Commodore commanding those ships. Above that you could have Installations like the Academy and Space Docks for HC personnel. That way they still can have a place on the ship of their choice, but for RPing perposes would have the two different options. The Army wouldn't be very difficult to change to match this format and like Calder says it would make the roster look bigger "If everyone stays".

I wonder, maybe instead of having all those ISDs, VSDs and FRGs, maybe we could get a Strikecruisers and a Dreadnought and some small craft (a Gunship, corvette, lancer?) to give the illusion of a more realistic strike force? Also, do we really need a a flag officer on four ships atm?

Going along with Vort and his suggestion of smaller craft, it was my understanding that the new ensigns of EaW would get to command smaller support craft like lancers or corvettes, similar to the ensigns of the flight sims commanding their own squadrons.

I agree that EaW ensigns should not be in bridge crews any more. Let them command smaller craft. Personally, I favor leaving them with Frigates versus Strike Cruisers and the like, but in the end it's all immaterial. In any event, taking them out of bridge crews will give them the upward mobility that I suppose a squadron leader (now an ensign in this situation) has.

Or, another idea maybe: If the Navy is going increasingly toward EaW: maybe just get rid of squadrons and start everyone commanding a small craft like a FRG? Or is that too extreme?

I think too extreme. We need fighter support and it won't make any sense if we get rid of them all.
