Should we scrape together the resources to launch a wargame against another club?

Absolutely. Captain Calder is definitely on to something here.

Call to Arms

Post by Calder »

Officers of the Empire:

Depending on what sort of response I get here, I will seek out another faction in an effort to begin an interfaction "war" based (most likely) on XWA and SWGB.

I need people who will be able to participate against others from another club. If you have any doubt whatsoever, then please don't just say "Yes, I'll do it." More than anything else I need an accurate count of officers who can freely participate because if I cannot get a minimum number then I am not willing to follow through with this.

For the amount of work it would take to run (and I know since I've done this before) I want to ensure that others will be as committed to it as possible.

As Senior Fleet Officer, I will take it upon myself to lead the Imperial Forces in this wargame unless Admiral Polanski himself wishes to intervene. Admiral Fel will be serving as squadron leader for our pilots.

Feel free to discuss here. If you are certain you can participate, then post here. If you have any question, etc. then please email me. I'm more than happy to work with you on individual basises (basi, bases?)

I am also attaching a poll with this since this might not even be a great idea.

Discuss now.

As I believe I stated before, I would be more than willing to serve by your side in battle. Also, if you need any other additional assistance in setting this all up, please contact me and I will be more than willing to do so.

I think its a great idea but I think that we should work thourgh our clubs activity problems first... ie the things Vort was talking about switching to one ship and all that other stuff.

Once that happens (if it happens) then I think it would be a great idea and I would absolutely play.

You've got my vote. My Schedual is a little up in the air for the next little while, but I'll still have spare time to participate.

i would sure be happy if such an event would take place, but i still think that this won´t have a chance to success.

sure, anybody always likes the ideas and wants stuff to happen, but in the end there are the same 2 or 3 people left who are actualy there, and you can´t start such a wargame with a handfull of people.

oh and just to point it out: i won´t have time for it in the next weeks (rl issues and SWG)

This is the kind of thing wich I had been waiting for a long time: interclan activity.

I am not sure if waiting would be a good idea though. Reorganisation of the fleet will run independently of this competition and none of the officers involved in the regrouping is affect by it either, so there won´t be any delays.

In fact, waiting is always a bad thing. Young pilots get tired of hearing prmoises "Once this get´s done we´ll blabla bla". The ladders are fine yet they always give the feeling of being in a training session. After all you are fighting with pals of your own navy.

Anyway, I support this idea :)

Judging from past experience, only a handful of people will actually be around. In "Imperial Supremacy" (the original one, hosted by yours truly) there were about two pilots on each side that flew semi-regularly. In "Operation: Purge Orus" it was exactly the same. So, in essence, there were usually the Fleet Commander, the Tactical Assistant and two pilots. And this was out of about 8 people on each side's roster.

Many people eagerly and excitedly shouted "Here!" when it was asked who wanted to participate. Unfortunately, whenever it was actually necessary for them to serve by their commander's side, they had very important things to do. Like going to the supermarket or something.

I may be a bitter old man, but I simply don't have faith in these declarations of the "Oh yes, I'll be so dedicated, I swear!" kind. I'll start to believe in dedication again as soon as I can see some.

To cut a long rant short: My vote is "no".

As I've said I would love to, just as long as the questions I e-mailed you, Mr. Calder wouldn't make any difference.

Allthough I absolutely second Syrt and Steel on this, I dont see why you shouldnt try it.
Afterall, theres nothing you could lose, if somebody not employed in working heavily on ER stuff already would be chosen.

I also support this idea.

As in the previous wargames PO and BO , where I was one of the few who participated. You can count me in to fly , skirmishes or training , as much as possible.

I personnaly beleive that this kind of activity is the basic to successfully create activity within our ranks.

Thank you in advance, gentlemen. As this is what I've joined the GE for.

Exactly. This is our job, we joined the navy not to write reports or to have a tea and biscuits. No, we joined to fight, to see some action and show every other clan how mean we are :p

Of course Navy tea is crap, they all drink coffee. Try sneeking down to Engineering and stealing a cup, they brew it good and strong down there. :P
