I don't remember all the details, but it involved a lot of alcohol and someone saying "You won't do it!" We were on shore leave on some remote planet and the only entertainment we had was to drink and dare each other to do outragrous things.

So, of course, I had to do it to save my pride. Someone took a picture. I think I was a commander at the time.

On a serious note, however, is what that item tells us about the culprit. It's obviously someone who has been around for quite some time and was privy to the antics of way back when because that's a very old joke and only a handful of people knew about it anyway. I think that narrows the suspect list down quite a bit.

And I can't blame him for not wanting the rancor with the way that think stank and crapped all over the place. I'd be wary about eating it though - the meat could be tainted.

1) It's been over a year since my promotion, so we're talking at least 18 months, probably closer to two years.

20) SCS = Ship Command Staff, which are the captain and first officer of a ship. Taken loosely, if could also apply to the additional staff on the star destroyers, like Admiral Polanski, General Rala, General Orzon, Admiral Fel, and General Jansen. That's why you notice in my signature (and that of Commander La Forge and Captain Wedge) rather than a squadron designation there is "SCS-??" where the ?? is CO for captain (Commanding Officer) or 1O for First Officer.

lol I was being serious, with the Captain's post I was able to take 3 people of my list and make my "shortlist" of most likely suspects even shorter!

Seeing as we have no real leads at this time we're going to have to draw the culprit out. We demand proof that Jacob Jr is still alve before we give Dr. Narrabrant anything.

As for suspects, pretty much anyone in the GE at the time is on the list, though there is a certain due of then-Lieutenants who's lot in life was to harrass Captain Calder as much as possible, especially with certain action arounf christmas time. These two are prime candidates for the role of kiddnapper. :P

BTW, it's been so long I've forgetten how we solve these things, can we ask questions or anything?

actually Captain Wedge there's been lots of clues and there really is a short list.

Clues/Facts

1) The culprit had to have access to the Nemesis. This includes security access for the cameras and other security features.

2) He or she knew that the General would be away. Again that would mean the culprit would most likely be on the Nemesis, so he/she could learn the Generals schedule.

3) The boots that NCO Iwit Ness saw the suspect wearing, one from both the Army and Navy. So we can either say that the suspect is either a lousy clone or a really bad dresser (I prefer the 1st theory)

4) Finally the culpret must have been around for atleast 18 months to 2 years. This signifigantly shortens the list because most of our current rosters have people joining after 2002.

5) This person wouldn't be close enough to own a copy of the picture of the SFO's incident, nor close enough to feel comfortable asking the FA for a signed picture, nor have access to a blaster from the Legion or have suffecient rank to aquire a helmet from the Army with out anyone noticing.

So.... When you go over those clues and facts you get a really small list of people. I believe that since everyone knows to have any security clearence in the GE you need to atleast be a Lieutenant. To get an army boot and a navy boot there would have to be a clone and an original person in the Navy and Army. This narrows the list down to the following: Lt Branent (Navy), Cpl T Branet (Army), Lt Stuka Solidis and 2nd Vondrake Solidisen (Army). The only person that was around at the time of the SFO Calder "photo incident" was Lt Branet!

SO.... I believe that it wasn't just one person, but it was two! I accuse Lt Branent (Navy), Cpl T Branet (Army)!!!!!

That's an interesting theory the ensign has there. There might be something to it. I'd like to request that LT Branet be taken in for questioning - I honestly doubt he is the culprit, but it's always nice to eliminate possibilities.

Then again, how reliable is our witness? And how intelligent is "Dr. Narrabrant"? Mayhaps he is misleading us. Let's look at it a step further:
  • What could he gain by taking the rancor?
What could he gain by the "ransom" he wants?
For something as important as General Jansen's odious animal, he could try to get credits. There must be a reason he wants those things (though I can't imagine why anyone would want the french maid picture...well, I can imagine one or two, but that's different).

Anyway, we might as well see what Branet has to say. Solidis might be interested in getting some dirt on me, so you could bring him in for questioning too....in fact, bring him in just for good measure.

Now where's my coffee and newspaper....

[this is an edit after the fact as I think some more about it...why would someone already in the army need an army helmet - even if we gave him a pink one? He would already have access to one]

bahaha... i think not! I'm not going anywhere with out a fight... *takes out blaster*

First off... they dont need to be a clone to have an Army boot, but mearly have once been in the army (or have once been in the navy)

So i think it was someone in the army, that was once in the navy. But now that i'm thinking about it... laForge was quite a trickster, ...but so was Falen...

Sirs, the 48 hours are almost up (if they haven't expired already). What did Lt. Branet say? And wouldn't a trick work betteer? If you destroyed the photo, just put in a roll of film, and put everything else in with it. Dr. Narrabrant, whose name coincidentally has something to do with branet, will leave the Nemesis, and we'll be able to catch him! One last thing, Lt Branet had no place to put a largish rancor! Unless Jacob Jr. is already dead, hardly anyone in the Nemesis has access to large enough quarters to put the rancor in. Doesn't this narrow down the suspects to only the highest authorities? In fact, what happens if General Jansen kidnapped his own rancor? He would still have it, and he would get all of the ransom. I recommend that we search the old abandoned school room in the academy!
OK, thats it. That's the best I could come up with. Regardless, time is almost out for the poor rancor

Okay, make a note of that....Solidis was resisting arrest.

And I hadn't even considered that "Branet" and "Narrabrant" are similiar - but I still never thought that Branet would be involved in something like this. He always seemed like a good kid to me.

@Solidis: Surely avoiding being taken into custody for questioning would be admitting guilt...is there something you should tell us?

And yes, I was quite the trickster. But luckily for me, not everyone here trying to solve this knows my entire history. But I have no reason to steal Jansen's rancor. I pissed the good man off once, and that was plenty for me... Scared the crap outta me. And I also have no access on the Nemi.

I too hadn't even considered Branet. Besides having access to the ship Jacob Jr was on, the names do match up suspiciously well. Someone is looking into it?
