Greetings officers of the Warhammer,

It has been brought to my attention, that there has been something wrong with my email server. Thus, several emails haven't been delivered and amongst those were a few for the Warhammer crew. So, I will just add them all together in this email (which I will also post on the message boards again, in case I still have some problems, just to make sure!)

This is the latest report from my office, spanning several months - three, to be exact.
A lot happened in this time and I hope you will forgive me that I had little time to spend on report writing, but then again most of you know what has happened during that time, so besides making offical documents, I didn't miss much. ;-)

Also, seeing how I tended to upload my reports every two weeks, I guess I can make it bi-weekly officialy. That way I don't have to think of lame excuses if I go over the deadline. :P

Anyways, time for the actual report:

Report from the office of Captain George Hellaeron Vortagh II, currently Captain of the VSD II Warhammer and Tactical Co-ordinator.

News from the Office of Tactical Coordination:

Not much in this department. Most of my testers are gone for the summer and I am neither in the mood nor do I have the time to test, edit, retest, fix and pacakge every single one of the rougly 80 mission on my desk.
The TC page needs a few updates here and there, especially with Colonel Fel's great IDMR patching work and the creation of the download archive, but other than that, it's still up-to-date. :-)
Other than finishing all the missions in queue at some point and fixing all the old Combat Chamber missions (I was thinking of finishing both of those tasks at the next millenium!) and updating the TC page, there's nothing planned at the Office for Tactical Coordination.

The "orders" on how to submit stuff are still the same and I will include it here so people don't have an excuse if they forget it.
Here a few guidelines that will help me do a better job and keep me from feeding you alive to a bunch of predator-nerfs:

1.) Go to this webpage and read the guidlines: http://imperialsquadrons.net/sprocess.php

2.) Keep in mind that I am currently a very, Very, VERY busy man! My desk is literally covered in paperwork (I mean it!) and things keep piling up allthough I am currently working about 5 hours a day and more on getting stuff done for the GE.

There is, however, one major project going on, that I will add to the news section of the Office of Tactical Coordination.
At this point, we are in the middle of designing a new segment of the GE:ER, that combines a variety of great game ideas of Captain Wedge and mine into an all-new browser game. Not much to tell you at the moment, but the game is coming along nicely - allthough it will be quite some time until we will even open a beta to the GE - and we are having lots of fun with it.
I can tell you as much as it will be similar to the Star Wars Combine, but with the emphasis on tactical and strategical choices. A name has not yet been chosen.

News from the Office of the Captain:

The last months have seen a lot of changes and very few of them seemed to have been documented. First Zeta Squadron managed to take over the rogue pirate Vicstar Deux "Warhammer" with the help of the ISD Nemesis and turned it into their own ship, carting around the Army. At that point I became Captain and pretty much everybody in the Squadron moved up one notch. Lieutenant Steel became Lieutenant Commander Steel and Zwibble and Splatter became Lieutenants.

Then the Dominance got blown up and the Chimaera barely escaped sharing that fate. As a direct result of that, the Warhammer now welcomes Wing Commander La Forge and Iota Squadron admidst our ranks. While the Chimaera is basically being rebuilt and the Vigilant is undergoing major repairs and refitting, we will be their new home for a (longer) while and hope they will feel at home here.
In Commander Muscat's report, I read that none of our new officers had been informed of this until he happened to check the rosters. I do not know when exactly that checking happened, but I know that Admiral Fel changed rosters a bit before he issued the Outer Sectors report (in which this transfer was mentioned) and that might have led to the confusion. Anyways, I hope that this didn't confuse you too much. The Chimaera isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and thus it would have made little sense to let you guys stay there.

Besides that, we took over some of the Chimaeras special fighters. We now have a nice completement of TIE/Scouts and TIE/Vanguard - both of them long range scout ships which will allow us to stay ahead of our rebel friends and decide on our own targets, instead of reacting to the rebels over and over again, like we did before.

Other than that, we just got our greedy fingers (and greedy they were) on a shipment of brand new Cygnus Assault Gunboats, stolen by the pirates, stolen back by us. Thanks go to the Imperial Intelligence for supplying our comm-specialists with the codes to override the Gunboats commandsets, letting us steer them right into our hangar bay, while fighting off the pirates.

I also would like to welcome the new officers, fresh from the Academy! I think you will find both excitement and adventure with us! ;-)

Well, with the good news come the bad news. Two officers are going to leave us. First there is former Lieutenant Zwibble, now Commodore Zwibble. She is taking of Admiral Orzonsold job at the Academy. May she bring us lots of changes and active cadets! Good luck there, Commodore. You will need it. :P

The second one to leave us is Lieutenant Splatter, allthough I am unsure for how long. He has a medical problem (see more in the ship activity listing) and cannot fly at this moment.

On another note, work on Galactic Empire Dominance III has started, but although there isn't THAT much to do (seeing how the rules are there and only need to be reworked a bit with the past experience), I am currently focusing my work on other projects. Especially with Outer Sectors still going on, I won't start this competition any time soon.

Anyways....

Captain Vortagh steped up towards the podium in the large central briefing room of the VSD Warhammer.
"Good afternoon, Ladies and gentlemen!" a brief glance over the crowd. "You might wonder what you are up to next. After our long range scouts returned from their assigned patrols, deep into Rebel and pirate space, our Admirals Fel and Calder gave me two choices."
Vortagh nodded at Wing Commander La Forge, standing next to the holoprojector. The room darkened and the projector started working, showing them a graphical overview of the current situation.
"The first problem we are facing is an apparent rebel scouting force nearing our sectors. We cannot allow them to reach their destination and thus have to destroy them to make sure they do not stumble over anything important. The scouting force seems to consist of only a small group of fighters, but we cannot outrule the possibility of a trap. The rebels have been fond of those lately and thus, even if it *is* a trap, we will expect it."
"Thus," Vortagh interupted the Commander, "task number one was to take out this scouting force, with the possibility of a much larger force just waiting for our fighters." Vortagh nodded to La Forge again.
La Forge paused for a second, before continuing. He brought up another set of pages on the holo projector and continued.
"As you can see here," La Forge said, "our scouts found a pirate instalation, now in Rebel hands. We do not know if they willingly handed it over or if it was taken by the rebel scum by force, but it was clearly identified to be pirate property in the beginning. Should they have handed it over to the Rebels, it could mean double trouble for us. Also, the target seems to be defended by a considerably low ammount of forces, so the target is ripe for plucking." La Forge looked over to the Captain who then continued.
"Our second problem. We need to get this base. First of all it would mean another base of operation for us - especially for us, as we are going to be on our own out here - and secondly we need to investigate into this pirate/rebel cooperation - or if it even exists."
Looking to La Forge and then gesturing to his two squadron leaders, Lieutenant Commanders Muscat and Steel, Vortagh continued.
"So, our two Admirals gave me the choice which I pondered with our squadron leaders and we came to the agreement that we will do both." Vortagh put up his arms as a murmur started to errupt from the crowd of assembled pilots and technicians. "Let's keep it down for a bit, while I will elaborate." The crowd died down and Vortagh started again. "We need to do both missions and there's no way around it. The scouting force is a danger to us, our fellow officers and their operations. Our TIE Advanced will be able to pound everything that the rebels can throw at us. Thus, the TIE Advanced of Zeta squadron will go after the scouting force." Vortagh nodded to them before going on "And we need the platform, both as a staging area as well as to find out about the apparent rebel/pirate collaboration in this sector. Thus, the new Gunboats of Iota squadron will help disable the platform." A look into the round showed Vortagh they were content with that explanation and now ready for the other news. "Before you will be briefed by your Squad Leaders, here's another piece of important news. As I said, I want the Gunboats to disable the rebel platform, but only Zeta Squadron has the eqperience to deal with the platform *and* its defenses at the same time." Vortagh waited a while for the hub-bub to quiet down, but La Forge started before he could.
"I know you have done a lot of simulator training with the new Gunboats, but you all will agree with me, that you are still far away from being completely acustomed to the new ships. None of you have flown these ships before, yet you are willing to fly them in the middle of a warzone? Commander Steel here has spent most of his time flying in Gunboats before he joined our forces and he trained Zeta Squadron in the simulator for months."
"The Commander is right. Zeta has too much experience for exactly this kind of operation to waste it." Vortagh raised a finger towards them. "And don't misunderstand me - Iota was a good squadron in TIE/Interceptors and you shouldn't have a problem with the newer TIE Advanced. That is why I want YOU to fly against the scouting force. I trust you with these horribly expensive and rare craft, sending you in a possible trap, remember that when you think about what I said." Vortagh looked at their faces and saw either understanding nodding or faces in deep thoughts when he continued. "When you get back, you will switch again and this time Commander Steel will oversee your training and give you some real life experience. I intend both Squadrons of the Warhammer to be capable and good in a multitude of craft and we are lucky enough to got a hold on those rare Gunboats in addition to our rare TIE Advanced. These two squadrons are the epitomes of the Imperial craft you can ever hope to fly in your career and we have them for you." Vortagh glanced into their now smiling faces. They had understood and were ready. He nodded to the three Commanders.
"Ok, squadrons! Into your briefing rooms. Your commanding officers will now brief you on your specific missions." La Forge bellowed.
With the large briefing room empty, La Forge and Vortagh walked back to the bridge.
"You forgot to tell them of the main reason why we have to do both missions." Said La Forge.
"And that would be?" Asked Vortagh, a smile on his lips. He would have been a fool to think his 1O wouldn't see the other reason and had expected that remark.
"Once we did both missions at once, would show what we can really do and would get to the interesting missions." The Commander made a devaluating gesture. "AWay from this patrol stuff."
"That, my dear Commander, I expect them to find out on their own." The Captain smiled all the way back to the bridge.

Free Worlds News:

Quite a bit of news here. For those of you who didn't know it, we are now playing on the Hyperion-RPG server! The webpage is located at http://www.hyperion-rpg.net and you need to sign up on their forum there and post a new post on this forum here, describing your character: http://hyperion-rpg.net/viewforum.php?f=12 (an example post is located at the top of the board!). Please note that you CANNOT play as an Imperial right away without being on the imperial list! So, sign up there, make a civilian character (with a [CIV] tag) and write a note to me, so I can get you added to the list and know about you!

Why did we change servers? Well, a month or two ago, the USA 24/7 server was turned off for the first time. Back then, Burnout the admin and creator of the Free Worlds mod, was fed up with the ammount of bitching and whining. The server was turned on again, but under control of another admin, while Burnout still supplied the hardware and paid for everything.
After another huge bitching-spree, he didn't want to spend multiple hundred dollars a month for the server anymore and the server was turned off again.
Another person annonymously offered a server and Gumba became the new admin of the server. At this point I was fed up with all the switching, because there was no more fun on that server. Thus we switched to the Hyperion server, were we form a large number of the Empire.
At this moment, I heard news that the USA 24/7 server is down AGAIN. Apparently Gumba himself was the owner of the server and has been attacked more than once by whiners. So, he is fed up, closed the server and the board and it looks like there won't be a new USA 24/7 server.

Otherwise, the work on Version 1.66 of Free Worlds continues under Zaccars lead (Burnout finally threw the towel after all this) and is going to be released soon.

The current GE officers are playing on the Hyperion RPG Server already:

CD Zwibble
CP Vortagh
CM Laithlis
LC Steel
EN Snogard
EN Raltir

Other "soon to be GE members who are already flying for us on the server" are:
Ben Bensen
P Boy
Pappy Boyington

Hunter has been put on the imperial list by my request, seeing how he flew with us on the USA 24/7 server, but until today, I haven't seen him anywhere on the server....or somewhere else either.

Personal Activity:

- Besides my function as Captain of the Warhammer and Tactical Coordinator, I am still the major GE:ER Freeworlds representative. Thus, several hours were spent playing on the Hyperion-RPG server, chatting with the other imperial members in our group there and keeping informed on the current FW goings on. You will have read more news about FW in the FW news section of this report.

- I have been working on two different "major" things for the GE, as you will have read in the general news section by now.

- With the ladders currently closed due to Outer Sectors, I spent more time playing "offline". Alltogether I flew nearly 40 "mission packages from the Combat Chamber, including all the Outer Sectors missions I haven't had the time to fly yet. (I started flying every mission for each round, but quite fast I had too little time to fly them all for each round and thus stayed with the important ones).

- The usual: Lots of time spent on message boards, instant messengers and IRC.

- I spent less time than I should on my TC duties, but with everybody important involved in (apparently) lots of other stuff, I don't see this as a thing too bad. However, there's still missions that have to be tested, packaged or repaired and there's still work to do on the TC page (albeit very little). As soon as my testers are back from holidays, the mission work will resume.

- I still have to finish several academy courses that I started. The courses on Computer Security and the re-done TIE/I and TIE/A courses are finished, thought. I will hand them in in the next days. The new courses on the TIE/B, TIE/F, TIE/D, TIE/Scout, Scimitar, Gunboat, Missileboat and TIE/Vanguard are nearly finished. I need to add a few drawings and those take up a lot of time.

- Of course I also participated in Outer Sectors. Quite a lot of participation. Allthough I had to see that Colonel Fel started to top my scores. I need to be flying more. MORE. :P

- I finished a GE History text of 4 pages (small font setting, no double spaced-ness. :P) that seems to have been accepted as the official GE History, allthough there will be a few add-ons and changes here and there. I started this, because the Freeworlds mod admin forces all of us "squad and faction leaders" to write a roleplay post on our faction, its past, etc.

- I helped Admiral Fel with his Outer Sectors missions. I hope to have the time to make more "cool background settings" and I hoped you enjoyed my first one in ERS-87. ;-) Please do send me feedback!

- I finished two exams, the old TIE/Interceptor and TIE/Advanced exams at the academy. Got a score on 100% on both. :P

Again, this list seems to be quite short (at least when compared to my "usual" plethora of things, but keep in mind that some of these points actually hide actions that were quite time intensive. Flying 40 sets of CC Missions takes more than just 20 minutes....Especially when you keep in mine the sorry state of most GE missions!

Current Ship Activity:

Wing Commander La Forge:
I am in daily contact with La Forge, seeing him for quite some time every day. The good Commander is helping wherever he can in the GE, coding a lot. Kudos to him and remember to say thanks to him, the next time you use your admin functions on the GE:ER webpage!

Lieutenant Commander Steel:
Steel is still playing Freeworlds, allthough I am unsure how much he plays. I have to say that I had very little contact with him lately, due to both of us being online with IRC very little and usually we tend to be quite busy.
Steel participated very nicely in the Outer Sectors campaign, flying every XvT and XWA missions thrown at us. Great work!

Lieutenant Commander Muscat:
I have been out of contact with the good Commander for a bit, but I still recieve his reports, so nearly all is well. :-)
Currently he is busy with his exams

Lieutenant Splatter:
Lieutenant Splatter had been with us for little more than a few weeks, when another Bad Thing (TM) took him from us, again! He was on medical leave again, this time for a check up of his ankle at the local imperial hospital. The doctors there then discovered that intensive care is needed for his ankle and he is now busy dealing with work, insurance claims and facing disability. My thoughts go to Lieutenant Splatter and I wish him the best and a speedy recovery!
During the time he was with us again, he also flew XWA missions for Outer Sectors for us.

Lieutenant Zwibble:
Lieutenant Zwibble is now Commodore Zwibble and head of the Academy. Good luck there!

2nd Lieutenant Drazhar:
I have had no contact with Lieutenant Drazhar, but I know he's around at least.
He keeps posting on the message boards, which is a good thing. ;-)

Sub-Lieutenant O'Moran:
Absolutely nothing from O'Moran, but I think I remember reading a post of him on the message boards.

Ensign Alex:
Besides reading his posts on the message boards daily, I haven't heard from Ensign Alex yet.

Ensign Lore:
Nothing yet. From what I read in Commander Muscat's report, he hasn't been in contact yet. If you read this, Ensign, report in ASAP!
However, I am quite sure that this Ensign is to be labled "another one of those who never do anything".

Ensign Raliter:
Ensign Raliter is on AIM daily and has messaged me a couple of times already. He just came from the Academy and joined the Freeworlds group, waiting for Darklord Zaccar to set him up as Imperial on our server. Keep up the activity, Ensign!

Ensign Snogard:
The good Ensign is a brave man, flying X-Wing Alliance with bad graphics drivers rendering text unreadable, just so he can fly with us!
He is also active in Free Worlds and we are talking on AIM often.

Current GE activity/competitions:

- The "Outer Sectors" Campaign is currently at Chapter VIII. Keep your eyes on the forum for news and fly your assigned missions! There are lots of other activities that will give you nice points, like flying CC missions or writing fiction.

- The "Warhammer" Competition is going to start with this report:
1.) I would like to see three banners created. We need a Warhammer and a Zeta Squadron banner and Iota Squadron should finally get a nicely done, new banner. Please keep the banners professional (read: Do not send me anything over 400x100 pixels and nothing done in MS Paint, unless it looks REALLY good!). For examples, look at anything created by former Admiral Syrtaras: http://syrtaras.com/FCArt.htm
Each and every Officer who sends something in will recieve a medal (based on the ammount of participation) in addition to points for Outer Sectors!
2.) I would like to read more stories, thus every officer who writes and uploads a story should send me a link to its location in the GE Archives!

I will add more ;-)

Standing Orders:

For the new "shipmates" amongst us, I will repeat my standard orders. However, we have been a bit lacking in the past time, which is mostly my fault, allthough I am also a bit dissapointed that you need me to remind you of our "duties"...

- The usual status update. Please send in a status update at least every three days/twice a week! That is the VERY least I expect! Every second day, as it was common before, is what I'd like to see. Tell us all you did lately for the GE: Missions flown, stories worked on, Outer Sectors participation, etc. It will act as a little push to the others when they see that you are active! The more, the better.

- Be more active to the outside people. I know we talk all the time and both Zwib and Steel are hanging out on IRC with me quite often, but a bit more would be nice! :-)
Join us on IRC and AIM! If you need help with getting online, using IRC, feel free to contact me! Chatting gives you all the "hot news" as fast as possible, seeing how I do not write an email for every piece of news I get (and rather wait to put it in the reports!). That way you will stay informed a lot more than the average GE Officer!

- Again, I would like to remind you of Outer Sectors. It is absolutely MANDATORY for each and every for you to fly AT LEAST the assigned missions.have a valid excuse, tell your Squad Leader BEFOREHAND. I know that at least one officer in Zeta Squadron only owns Free Worlds.
If I hear from Admiral Fel or General Jansen that one of you hasn't flown the assigned mission, I am going to be quite angry, because you joined the GE to do something, not to sit on a roster picking your nose.

- The ladders are currently down, but that doesn't mean one cannot play online against his ship-mates. I am open for any challenges and believe me when I say that I am quite rusty. You have a nice chance of beating me soundly nowadays!

- I am looking for crew members willing to create webpages for the VSD Warhammer. I would like to host these pages, which will include subsections for Iota and Zeta Squadrons, on my server. Officers willing to help, should have a good ammount of HTML knowledge at least (PHP, CSS and other knowledge is preferred) and also some sense of asthetics and common sense in webdesign. I don't want another one of these abhorrent, Geocities-hosted, 1994-WWW monstrocities with their MS Word made "HTML" and their spinning banners.
I have a few ideas and outlooks ready and just look for something to do the work (and get the praise, duh), seeing how I have no time for all of this. Interested officers should contact me by email.

- Standing orders for missions are still the same! If you have some time, fly a mission or two from the GE Combat Chamber. Not only will YOU get a medal for flying them, but also your squadron will recieve a combat medallion in different grades, depending how many members have flown a given mission. And last but not least you will get Outer Sectors points!
Currently Zeta holds the most Squadron medallions. Please keep in mind that I am taking the missions one hasn't flown yet, from the Combat Record of each of you. If you have flown one of those missions already, please double check if it is really not mentioned in your profiles Combat Record and then start bugging Admiral Fel immedeately. That's what I do all the time. The following people still need to fly the following missions:

CP Vortagh:
ERS-6, ERS-21, ERS-22, ERS-23, ERS-24, ERS-25, ERS-26, ERS-27, ERS-28, ERS-29, ERS-30, ERS-31, ERS-39, ERS-40, ERS-41, ERS-43, ERS-44, ERS-45, ERS-46, ERS-48, ERS-50, ERS-52, ERS-55, ERS-56, ERS-57, ERS-58, ERS-59, ERS-66, ERS-70, ERS-71, ERS-72, ERS-75, ERS-76, ERS-77, ERS-78, ERS-79, ERS-80, ERS-81, ERS-82, ERS-83, ERS-84, ERS-85, ERS-86, ERS-87, ERS-88, ERS-90, ERS-91, ERS-92;

Praise and Criticism:

Praise of the week goes to:
Ensign Snogard, for facing the horror of not-even-seeing-what-the-hell-he's-flying, just so he can fly with us in the Outer Sectors campaign! If that isn't something worth mentioning....

Criticism of the week goes to:
Commodore Zwibble for leaving us! How DARE you, Ma'am? :P

Quote of the week:
[19:01:35] <Vortagh> You don't want to offer your help, no? :P
[19:02:11] <Tuomo> No. :-)
[19:02:22] <Tuomo> I'm too busy golfing and sailing. ;P

At least he's honest. :P

Vortagh's rules of being a Supreme Commander:

#4 If you have to move, do it once. Not over and over again. ;-)

That was it, hope you enjoyed the show. As usual, drop me praise or flames in my inbox. Until next time,

Bwahaha. :P
I've actaully started leisure flying again, when I don't feel like or are too tired to do real work, too.
