A question of TIEs and music.

Post by Lanil Jast »

Quick question: is it possible to make TIE Fighter only play certain music files, i.e. the Imperial ones, and if so, how?

I presume you're using TIE 95, which uses a completely different music system to the DOS version of TIE.

In the DOS version, one or two of the LFD files in the Resource directory contained short, one- or two-bar snippets of MIDI. The game would randomly play these snippets one after another, calling a certain one whenever something important happens (eg an enemy capital ship arrives, you win the mission, etc.)

TIE '95, on the other hand, uses the same system (and practically the same game engine) as XvT - it plays the music tracks on the game CD. So, theoretically, you might be able to create a new CD with the same data tracks but different music tracks; however, I would suspect that this could be taken as "reverse-engineering a commercial game" and therefore illegal.

I just turn the music off. It bugs me.

The music doesn't even play for me in-flight, and I have 95. I've lost any care in the matter though :D
