Resignation

Post by Vortagh »

I hereby wish to announce my resignation from Imperial services.
There have been a few things responsible for it and I definitely want to share them with you guys.

1.) Time - Time has become an issue for me lately. Many of you will have noticed my lack of "being there" (there being IRC, AIM, SWG, MBs, etc).
At the moment I should have nearly all the time I want, as I am on my holidays in the US right now, but actually I am on the computer even less and when I am, I usually do something else. Plus, when I will get back to Germany, it's university again for me, where most of my time will be spent only on IRC, with only little time left for actual 'work'.

2.) Star Wars Galaxies - The game has become too much of a nuisance to me. It is a great fun game, especially with the GE people who also play it, but I am one of those people who get horribly annoyed by the developers inability to fix bugs (and instead create new ones) that have been in the game for a year now, add content and completely fuck up the game mechanics. Oh, and mostly care for the Jedi. They should rename the game Jedi Galaxies and be done with it.
In other words, the game that I play for the GE has become an annoyance to me.

3.) The GE - Yes, by far the biggest reason for my resignation, is the fact that there is no will in the GE to change to the better. Well, not true. There is some.
For one thing Pol and the others did a wonderful job of getting all the stuff to run that should have been up and running years ago, while ignoring the shiny things (like admin, nifty but useless in the beginning). To that, I tip my hat.
However, the tough thing is that it would have been useful when it should have been created and the time where we can just go ahead like we did a couple of years ago is over.

At the moment, barely anybody plays online anymore. Oh yeah, everybody has a big mouth when it comes to shouting how much he wants to play and how great the ladders were, but as soon as the ladders are there, how many of you actuall ARE doing something?
Most people I seriously wonder WHY they are actually in the GE. Holding a position seems to mean nothing, because you don't have to do anything. And guess what, most people are very good at that.

Another thing is the obsession people have with ranks and positions and the unwillingnes to give up a rank or a position and be a good example.
If this wouldn't be a resignation letter but a complaint, I would now drop my title and sign up as an ensign, but as I am leaving, I suppose that is no longer needed. You can still make me one, if you want too. :P
Let's look at the GE. We have:

One Fleet Admiral
One Moff (me)
One Rear Admiral
One Lord
Two Generals
A Major General
Two Brigadiers
Two Line Captains
Three Commanders

All of this, to control roughly 50 officers, of which about half are clones. Am I the only one who sees the error in there?
Why exactly do we automatically HAVE to have a General and a Brigadier as soon as we get the army? HELLO? There are four people in the army and even if there'd be ten or even twenty in there, it would NOT explain the need of having a General and a Brigadier. Why can't we start with a Colonel? Why does the Army automatically need three positions to be filled with high ranking officers? WHY?
I think and I am NOT sorry for stepping on anybodies toes, that people are just not willing to go into a lower rank, because people are obsessed with their ranks. "Hey, I am a <enterhighrankhere> in this division, so now I should automatically become this and that high rank." GAH?

Then there is the "Commander" thing. No Captain in this club ever had so much to do that he needed a Commander to aid him. Sure, he sometimes has no time, but why can't the most experienced LT help?
We have a FAR too big head and people have been talking about that for a long time, yet nobody is willing to change this. This head we are creating is NOT helping. Why can't we finally realize that we have to downsize? One ISD, with a Captain and two or three squadrons that are filled to at least 50%, a Colonel with a few army units, a Colonel with a few legion troops, one academy guy one Fleet Commander and that's it. That way we'd be at a point where we could actually do something, instead having 14 people in useless positions and some squadrons that are barely able to do anything more than complain how there's nobody in them.
But what am I saying? People are either not willing to do this or didn't get it when a few people (including me) said it all the other times.

I was joking when saying "Hey, why don't ya make me a Moff <puppyeyes>" but I was VERY surprised when I actually became one this easy. I am very proud that some officers immedeately said "He should be one, because he did a great job, etc pp." but that doesn't change my surprise at how easy it was to get this title, one of the highest ranks the empire has.

So, I could say more but I think most people get my point and I know there will be more than enough that do not get it, but I am done. I know that there will be the standard "well, you know you're not helping" reply, but to those I say "fsck you". Don't even bother to type it. I tried waking people up far too long and I am finally sick of it. If you wanna drive Titanic II into the iceberg dead ahead, go right ahead, but I am sick of it and will take the captains boat and drive to Hawaii.

I wish you luck in getting it to live again, but with this blindfold of ignorance, you will reall need it.

"I tried waking people up far too long" You and syrt have opened my eyes. Believe what you want sir, but the GE loses a big part of itself as you leave.

This man has done so much for the GE, yet at the same time says he hasnt done enough!

This man has earned the title/rank of moff, yet he himself says he has not!

This man, the one of the best examples of a true imperial officer in the GE. I hope one day i can work hard enough to be half the officer he is. So i am truly sorry that you have to leave. *salute*

It is a shame to see you go, although I will admit that your justification for it is more than reasonable. Nearly everything you have said is true, and I don't even have a reason to add onto it. I would like to request, however, that you remain somewhat within communications with us all in order to provide any words of wisdom you may have. Your perspectives on the GE and its situations have always been helpful ones. Best of luck in whatever you intend on doing next, and everything else you are doing now.

Solidis and Russell. Said good. One of the biggest qualities of Vortagh (apart from his great capacity) was his critique capacity. This one was indicating to us the flaws and weaknesses of our club. I have taken them in account and have tried to do all the possible from trying to correct some flaws. Nevertheless, now Vortagh goes away.
And with him there goes away one of the big figures of the GE. But I do not lose the hope that it continues helping with any form.
Vortagh, you have several friends (and admirings of his work, though you do not believe it). That go you well.

Well, it is a shame that you are leaving us, as you do point out the good and the bad. I'm sure that the GE will miss your presence, and certainly your resourcefullness and eagerness to speak truth.

A simple point is that we must all think carefully about the future. For everyone's information we will soon be having a much smaller rostered capactiy, as seen with the current state of the Chimaera. The Nemesis will not have a first officer (we may downgrade to a VSD). All major units will head to just one commanding officer for the foreseeable future. The academy will have just a commandant.

Changes cant happen overnight. But they will happen. Theres a lot for one person to do; and I can only do so much at once :) Stay tuned...

Until we speak again Mr. Vortagh <salute>

A few notes and thoughts, as needed. ;P

1.) The major issue for my resignation is time and 'fed up ness' with Star Wars Galaxies. As soon as at least the time issue gets solved and either SWG get it's issues sorted (or a new and good SW game released), I will definitely be back! I like the people here too much to just leave forever. :P

2.) I do not hold ANY grudge against ANY person in this club!

3.) There are problems, but I still trust that people will see them and steer clear of them.

4.) Thanks to all. :)
