Just in case because there is a possibility. But we just had tropical storm Cindy hit us and theres debris everywhere and power flickering so me and PV2 Wolfran might not be active online for a week or two Because a few days from now Tropical Storm Dennis is supposed to hit but its supposed to be a catagory 3 or 4 hurricane by the time it gets here and if that does us in the city of New Orleans are royally screwed since we live at a elevation of like -14 feet below sea level. I went out today and the Lake Pontchartrain was higher than the roadway. Even then if it does come thats when you pack the bags and haul.

And this applies to PV2 Wolfran too he lives around me and I told him I would put this up so he would not have to worry about making another notification of his own. So if neither of us appear for a week plus or minus a few days you know where we went. Dennis is slated to reach here around Sunday I hear.

oh.. Does it count as a Army skill if I know how to turn a house into a armored fort for a hurricane? with corrugated steel sheets.

wish the entire Gulf Coast of the US luck..lol the storms only a good almost 300 miles across

Building houses out of brick and concrete, instead of paper mache and wood would help. :P

In all serious, though, good luck to Nexant, Wolfran, and anyone else caught in that mess. Thank goodness that I moved to a country too boring to get hit by tropical storms and/or tornados.

South Florida (where I live) is also in Dennis' track for the time being, so a heads-up on that. I'll be in Miami on Saturday to catch a baseball game (I hope). Perhaps I'll get holiday pay from Winn-Dixie if the storm shuts down my hometown

you should find out saturday morning Major Mitchell. Im going to college for meteorology and i have some skill at interpreting the seeming random conglomeration of numbers NOAA puts on their site. But in all likely hood the way it is currently going you will probably get fringes and it will make landfall between the Biloxi, Mississippi area and central Louisiana coastal area as of now. That area between South Hispanolia and Columbia is a common zone that degrades the composition of the storm and causes them to destabilize. But Dennis is actually gaining composition in teh area and picking up speed through it and it is being pulled/pushed north-northwest by some circulation aroudn the Florida area it seems. Hopefully it does not because if that thing does get to Catagory 4 New Orleans can be uninhabitable for possibly months. It seems to be following the track of the great hurricane of 1914 i think was the year that basically devastated the city. see you listen to me to much and you learn something its just horrible

both of us are doing meteorology just different school but hes going to be a civvy and do it you know kinda like the ones on tv with the ugly toupees and flirt with the old anchorwoman

while i shall do it for the great and wonderful United States Air Force where i can have some high tech stuff and a budget with many zeros on it ha..I WIN

I'm on the very edge of the "cone of probability" for Saturday or Sunday, but we could use the rain, it's starting to get really hot again.

@Nexant: Depending where he will be employed, I am quite sure he will make more money than any Air Force/Army/Navy meteorologist in *any* armed forces around the globe. :P

It just depends on where he will get a job... :P

We sure could use the rain in Sarasota too...it's about 89-91 degrees right now, heat index pushing 105, and no rain in about five days, with little to come. I just got out of the shower after a five-mile run. I could puke right now....

Are you in Gainesville right now, Colonel, or are you somewhere closer to the Mississippi?

G'ville, and we haven't had any rain since the weekend. It's miserable outside, and even the AC at work is being stressed pretty bad, too.

they stress that it is not a done deal with the course but with current forecasting routes it seems you floridians have the bigger chance of getting it now

true he might make more money in the beginning but dont you think someone who is a experience USAF meteorlogist can get a bigger job when he retires after some years then some guy who starts off in the beginning at accuweather or something. Im told with my route I can get teh bigger jobs with oil companies and the such because I receive more training when I goto the Air Force

Harsh words, Vort, but not terribly untrue. But I think insurance agents, hospital patients and Ivy League college applicants have got to be pretty high on that list too

it wasnt a recruiter it was someone who is a meteorologist in the air force and the admissions officer at Notre Dame and my JROTC Colonel and my Training Officer at Barkesdale AFB
