When a Brigade Commanding Officer is appointed, it is to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (LCL). At this level, the Lieutenant Colonel is responsible for his entire brigade. Like being the captain of an Imperial Navy warship, command of a Brigade is often considered to be the culmination of an Imperial Army career, and there are numerous recorded cases of officers declining transfer to a larger or better unit so that they might remain with their troops.
